東京都文京区に鎮座する根津神社は、今から約１９００年余前、日本武尊（やまとたけるのみこと）によって創建されたと伝えられる由緒正しき古社です。現在の社殿は、1706年（宝永3年）に五代将軍徳川綱吉の時代に造営されたもので、本殿・幣殿・拝殿・唐門・西門・透塀・楼門の7棟すべてが国の重要文化財に指定されています。江戸時代の権現造建築の傑作として、その歴史的・文化的価値の高さが評価されています。境内には、朱塗りの千本鳥居が連なる乙女稲荷神社があり、幻想的な雰囲気を醸し出しています。また、春には約3,000株、100種類のつつじが咲き誇る「文京つつじまつり」の舞台としても知られ、四季折々の自然美が訪れる人々を魅了しています。
